💚💛 FOUR FROM FOUR TO START 2026! 💚💛
What a way to kick off the season for the boys from Spotty!
Round 1 of the 2026 TIV Division 1 competition saw the Woodsmen take on Newport, and the result was a clean sweep — 4 wins from 4 gamesÂ
The day got underway with both our U18 Division 1 and Division 2 sides hitting the field at 10am, and both games were absolute thrillers.
Our Division 2 boys got the job done by 8 points, with Lukas Hales slotting 3 on debut, Tate Halliwell adding 2, and Mitch Slattery chiming in with 2 after stepping up from the U16s. A great start for the young Woodsmen, with Jack Funari earning Best on Ground honoursÂ
Then came a massive moment for our Division 1 U18s, defeating Newport for the first time since returning to Division 1 three years ago.
Against last year’s undefeated premiers, the boys stood tall in an absolute classic, getting home by just 1 point.
Spotswood 7.10.52 def Newport 7.9.51Â
With 7 individual goal kickers, it was a true team performance and a brilliant way to open the year.
The winning momentum rolled into the Reserves, who stormed home in the second half to record a 16-point win.
After trailing by 2 at the main break, the boys lifted when it mattered most, with late goals from Bailey Hockey, Connor Schibeci, Nathan Kennedy and Darcy Coleman-Wilson sealing the win.
Nathan Kennedy’s dribbling snap from the boundary was one for the highlights reel while Bailey Hockey may have taken mark of the dayÂ
And then the Seniors finished the job.
Sam Cross got things started just 2 minutes in and never let Newport settle. Cross finished with 4 goals, well supported by Charlie Barnes (3), James Cleaver (2), and first-gamer Lincoln Sieben (2).
Josh Drage took home Best on Ground, while newbies Lincoln Sieben, Jackson Williams and Max Mitchell-Russell all made terrific contributions in a 23-point victory.
A massive start to 2026 for the Woodsmen.
Next week the senior teams head to Caroline Springs the U18's Division 1 takes on Werribee at Soldiers while the U18 Division 2 team has the bye
🇦🇺 Next home game: ANZAC DAY vs Altona
Let’s pack the wing and get behind the boys 💚💛🔥
