Three wins from five matches was the overall result for our senior men’s football teams over the weekend.

The thirds started the ball rolling on Friday night at home against Wyndhamvale. The game followed our first Auskick session of the year, which saw 146 kids and their parents stick around for a quarter or two. The thirds started with a bench of eight players and finished with just three after injury and soreness took their toll. Despite that, they recorded a solid 59-point win to extend their unbeaten run to three games. Abdul El-Houli and Corey Thomas both kicked three goals.

The Under 18 Div 2 team travelled to Wyndhamvale for an 8:30am start and looked half asleep early, trailing by nine points at quarter time. Things changed quickly from there, with a five-goal-to-none second quarter setting up the win. The boys kept the pressure on, outscoring the Falcons 11 goals to 3 over the final three quarters to win by 49 points. Lukas Hales kicked three goals, while Aiden, Harvey, Alex and Luke all added two each. Hales now sits fourth on the competition goal-kicking ladder, while the team remains on top with three wins from three games.

The U18 Div 1 team also recorded a strong win at Yarraville, taking the four points with a 139-point victory. The defence played its role brilliantly, holding Yarraville Seddon Eagles to just one point in the first half. Bailey Hewitt kicked five goals, William Blair added three, and there were 12 individual goal kickers for the game. Spotswood is now the only undefeated team in the U18 Div 1 competition with four wins from four.

The reserves were involved in a cracker against Yarraville Seddon Eagles, with only a goal or two separating the teams throughout the match. In the end, the Eagles finished stronger in the final quarter to secure a 14-point win. Ben Manoussakis kicked six goals for Spotty.

Our senior men couldn’t capitalise in the final quarter, eventually going down by 36 points. An eight-goal second quarter brought Spotty back into the contest at half time, but they couldn’t bridge the gap after trailing by 47 points at the final change. James Cleaver kicked four goals, Harley Walshe added three, while Sam Cross, Charlie Barnes and Beau Lagos — in just his second senior game — all kicked two.

This week, our seniors and reserves host Parkside, with the U18 Div 1 team taking on Hoppers Crossing on Oval 1. Our U18 Div 2 side plays Albion on Oval 2 at 10am, while the thirds travel to Werribee on Friday night to face Centrals. 💚💛
